a tale of two loves!

standing at latitude-9.91 & longitude-78.11 mani called me on phone last week......hey please, donot trouble yourself too much to find out what lies there!! it's sarvodaya ilakkiyap pannai(a book stall) in madurai, located nearby railway station. mani wanted to buy some books and asked me for recommendations.

the time was after chennai floods, we were discussing about one of the most intense emotional aspects of human relationships. so readily suggested to take, "romeo and his juliet" and " othello".
**********************************
and the reason....

10 years ago during my college time, love was .....like... a subject of research for few, business-as-usual for some!!! ;-) i resorted to shakespeare to get some clear idea about it.

indeed, curiosity drives us to dig deep into everything.

so i set out to understand what love is!

imagine like this.....when this fellow-love walks past you, would you be able to recognize him-unless you know how EXACTLY he looks?! or....you may mistake someone else for him!!

this idiot seems to have far tooooooooooo many look-alikes.
***************************************************************
the central theme in both these works(romeo-juliet and othello) is "love", with a tragic ending.

romeo and juliet love each other and....die at last.
othello and desdemona love each other and....die at last.

is the emotion involved in both the cases LOVE?
if yes, which is better then? first case or the second?

tried to find answers to these questions! and.....gonna present my observations; judgment is.....ABSOLUTELY YOURS!

soooo....into comparison. straight into the love between these lead characters.

romeo and juliet are members of two warring families in verona. of equal status in society. equals in wealth. equals in physical match. follow same religion. neighbors. but....from families of greattttttttt enmity!

romeo-juliet's love is.....that between EQUALS though inimical.

but......

othello and desdemona are not from same place. while othello is a muslim; desdemona is a christian. while othello is shown orphaned; desdemona has her father; while othello is dark-skinned, desdemona is a white dove; while othello is a warrior, desdemona is a senator's daughter; while othello is regarded belonging to an inferior class, if not for his warring skills, desdemona is regarded a highborn.

othello-desdemona's love is.....that between IN-EQUALS.

in the first case, the emotion of love over powers and overwhelms one strong emotional hurdle-enmity.

in the second case, the emotion of love overwhelms soooooooooooooo many biases, inequalities and differences and indifferences; it has to overcome many emotional, social, economic, physical and psychological barriers to preserve itself; every element works against this love; yet it has to survive....or rather....die epitomizing.

somehow, IMHO....love overpowering only a single emotional hurdle- hatred is onething; while overpowering too many prejudices takes indeed a greater love.

sooo....which is the best!? and....tell me secretly who is walking past you!?
